Skippy was my 1st cousin. My mother's brother was his father. I was not born until 1956 so, my relationship with Skip was not mature. His home was in Mountain Park, Georgia, and his father was the mayor. I remember him as an athletic, articulate, warm person. Even though I was very young, Skip treated me with great humility. He spent time showing me martial arts moves as well as teaching me how to play chess. While our visits were short and few my memories of him are brilliant and remarkable. I still have a chess set his father told me was made by Skip. I am proud to be related to this brilliant and courageous man and wish that we had more time together as I know I would have learned much from him. |
