Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Son on August 6, 2020:

My Father, May he Rest In Peace.

Dad was an honorable man, who was formed at West Point. He was an honest man, loved his country, and practiced his taught engineering to innovate geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering.

There was no radioactive cleanup project too big for him no matter the risk. He served the USA in more ways than one.

He was a great father that instilled the West Point way in his children, and even woke us up to his non-bugle morning call via his lips.

Honor, Duty, Country.

As a child I may have accidentally borrowed $20 from his wallet, but he was an engineer and mathematician, and always knew what was in his wallet. My consequences were to write 1000 times, "I will not lie, cheat or steal" and a long reprimand. I got the point at 8 years old!

He was a selfless parent that showed his children leadership and the world, either taught or through experience.

One time I tried to test his knowledge about a homework assignment of the definition of a few complex and obscure words, and he defined each one to my surprise. I did get an A+ on the assignment!

My mother was his soulmate, there was nothing she could ask for that he would not give her. He loved her in ways that most will never understand, 50 years happily together.

He bought my first car, and he said "here are the keys and a heater, you need to work for A/C and the stereo".

He was loved and respected by all that had the opportunity to meet him and work with him.

He was a complete person, selfless and honorable.

His wish was to have his ashes be shot out of the West Point Howitzer at morning call. Unfortunately, that request was denied.

May he Rest In Peace and his family continue his values and beliefs.

I love you Dad, where ever you may be.

Love for always,
Your only Son
