Because Michela and Michlik are close alphabetically, Bob Michela and I sat next to each other the very first day of plebe math in Sep 1960. Bob was a turnback and very wise in the ways of West Point. I was seventeen years old and had no idea what laid ahead. Bob, always calm and sure, provided his insights into the future. When we connected again years later in the Washington DC area, Bob impressed me as the same calm and sure person I had first met in 1960. He was unfailingly upbeat and always a pleasure to be with. In the recent years as I started joining in the class ski trips I got to get to know Bob even better and enjoyed his company even more. I will miss his company, his quiet smile and the twinkle in his eye. |
