Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David Matthews on May 23, 2010:

This might come as a surprise to many as I knew Tommy for such a short time when the Millacci family was living in South Ruislip, Middlesex(UK), close to the USAF HQ, in the 1950s. Our gardens backed on to each other, so it wasn't long before the families got to know each other and, especially, Tommy and Sandy together with my brother (Ron) and me were playing together in the lovely apple trees that grew in their garden.
When the family moved back to USA, Tommy and I kept in touch for a while but, after I joined the Royal Air Force, and got posted overseas I neglected communicating with Tommy and so was deeply shocked when, after sending a Christmas card to him some time in the mid sixties, I received a reply from his Dad telling me the very sad news. I recall a generous, fun-loving person and family and, guess what, I still have the sheath knife that Tommy bought for me when the family was posted to Germany for a while.
I am so pleased to have discovered this website and to read of Sandy's life career. My wife and I (I am now 70 years old) have just returned from a lovely holiday, spent mainly in Virginia and Washington DC, with just five days in Boston and New York.
