Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joe Mastriani on September 13, 2004:

Jack and I were plebes/yearlings together in D-2, known in those years as an intramural jock powerhouse. We were both sprinters, and usually alternated winning 1 & 2 in most of the meets, in addition to virtually always winning the 440 relay.

When winter/fall sports came along, we made the Corps Squad track team, and met our match in Sgt Trahan, the plebe coach. As sprinters, we had a tendency to dog anyworkout over 100 yards, for which Sgt Trahan dubbed us "The Goldbrick Twins".

Back in the barracks, we had many a personal discussion about life. Whenever I have occaision to see or hear about the C-124 or the U-2, Jack pops into my mind. At these 5 year intervals, he always re-appears, and will live on forever.
