I knew Ben fairly well at West Point. We were in the same regiment and shared many classes. That said, I got to know Ben a lot better when we were studying Vietnamese together at Monterey in the fall of 1966. We were in the same classes and Ben's fun loving personality made the time much more enjoyable. I especially remember the two of us inventing unique ways to remember our Vietnamese vocabulary. During that time, Ben and Cathy reached out to take care of my two roommates and me, frequently having us over for drinks and dinner. Those times at Monterey and with the Marinos remain among my fondest memories of that period. Ben lived a good, successful life and leaves me many warm memories. I will miss him. He's gone much too soon. |
