Captain Ken Eklund was the last company commander of F/58th LRRPs and the first commander of the unit when it officially changed its designation to Rangers ("L" Company 75th Infantry) of the 101st Airborne Division in February of 1969. This was in the I Corps Province of Vietnam. He had also served as a platoon leader with the 1/327th Infantry of the 101st Airborne on a previous tour of Vietnam. From all accounts, he was an outstanding company commander during his time with both the LRRPs and the Rangers. I recently found out about his death from a former Ranger, author Gary Linderer, a member of the U.S.Army Ranger Hall of Fame. I am a Unit Director for the 75th Ranger Regiment Association which represents the Rangers and LRRPs of the 101st Airborne Division.
