Al (Tap) was my Ranger Buddy, and I write primarily from that point of view. Although great friends, we were in different regiments, and saw little of each other at West Point. During vacations and then Jump and Ranger Schools, however, we were together constantly. Al functioned well under pressure, and was blessed with amazing physical strength and endurance. He did not find Ranger training physically challenging, worrying mostly about his patrol evaluations (as did many of us). The Army tested Allen Jones and found him to be a good soldier. There is no higher accolade. I am honored to have been his friend and brother and count his family as my own.
