Be Thou At Peace

| Perhaps, many, who knew Hutch at West Point, could not imagine his heroism in Santa Domingo in 1965. His mild temperament and, seemingly, nonchalant attitude belied his true character which I saw everyday on the basketball court. I had the privilege of playing with and against Hutch for four years. I think the real soul of a person is reflected in competition. We didn't always win and some days were more difficult than others when combining all the rigors of cadet life. Hutch seemed unflappable and I marveled at his consistent demeanor of strong competitive drive and character. Obviously, he carried that strength of character and leadership into his short professional career. I feel honored to have known Hutch and will never forget him......or that sweet jump shot. |
