Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Steve Bettner on December 10, 1999:

Dave Ramsay was the first real person I ever met at West Point. He, Bill Bradley and I were roommates in Beast Barracks. Dave was everything I wasn't as far as the military. He was mature, knew exactly what to do, and never flustered. I was barely 18, from a small farm in central Indiana and didn't know a spit shine from moonshine. Dave had me squared away in no time. His quiet confidence inspired confidence from those around him. As I recall, he made New Cadet of the week several times. But even better, for the rest of our Cadet days, we shared that special bond of friendship because we made it through Beast together. We went to different regiments, but made a point of getting together often. When I picture Dave in my mind's eye, there's always that radiant smile. He was a very special person, my personal hero for dragging me through two very dramatic months of my life. Thanks, Dave, and--Well Done!!!
