Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bill Murphy on March 24, 2010:

Jim was the first new cadet I encountered on 5 July 1960 at the Hotel Thayer. I was a wet behind the ears kid from Montana who had no idea what to expect. He immediately tried to allay my fears. We both ended up in the 2nd new Cadet Co and then in I-2 for the first two years. He was always smiling and willing to help out me and his fellow classmates. We both went often to daily mass to gain strength for the ordeals we faced. He remained a good friend for the rest of our cadet years. I lost track of him after graduation as I went into the Air Force. I was shocked to hear about his untimely death in South Vietnam. He was a true soldier who loved his Army, his wife, and his friends.
I know he is in a better place now.
Thanks for everything!
