Be Thou At Peace

| Ralph and I were roommates Plebe Year and I relied on him to teach me the ropes regarding the military way of doing things. I was 17 years old and just out of high school and Ralph had attended the USMA preparatory school. He kept me out of a lot of trouble with upperclassmen particularly the Yearlings. Ralph had a keen sense of humor and he always could find something positive to say or do. After graduation he drove out to Pratt, Kansas, and was my Best Man when I got married. Though I have not seen Ralph for many decades I thought of him often and smile when I recall the good times that we had at West Point. I will miss him and can only say "Well done Ralph, be thou at Peace". |
