Following graduate schooling, Jim and I were in the same Ranger class in the summer of 1967, along with Chuck Moseley and Ed Simpson. At the end of Ranger School, Jim and I were offered the chance to join the 101st Airborne Division and deploy to Veitnam in a few months. We both voluntered to do so. We were both given battalion staff jobs and trained at Fort Campbell. Then we flew overseas and shared the great adventure of setting up a combat engineer battalion in a combat zone. Jim was one of the smartest, and one of the nicest guys I have ever known. I will always remember him fondly. Duncan MacVicar, '65 |
