Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Fred Smith on February 22, 2010:

John was an M-2 file and we all got to know John's brillance and athletic ability our cow year before he got selected to be on the Brigade Staff. We became friends. When we met up in Ranger School we quickly decided to become Ranger Buddies. Nine challenging weeks later we had a lifetime of stories from the mountains and swamps. Whenever we got together we always had a lot of laughs about our escapades.

Over the years we visited, met at Army-Navy games and kept in touch. We were fortunate to be at John and Leslie's wedding and 5th anniversary celebration. What fun.

John had his illness for a long time and his strength of character was always impressive. Even a week or so before his death he was still planning for activities in the future, maybe even the reunion, if his strength improved. Our class lost a great classmate and friend. Our prayers are with him and his family.
