Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Fredric Laughlin on September 21, 2013:

I was greatly saddened to hear that we lost Ed from our ranks. His battle with cancer was a model of courage and character. Though the disease racked his body, I never saw it dim his spirit. During the past decade of semiannual trips east for the Radcliffe golf outings, I always looked forward to seeing Ed and being inspired by his buoyancy in the midst of treatments that made us cringe. Ed was not in denial. Far from it. He knew the odds and lived in their face. He was in every sense an inspiration to us all.

No doubt a good dose of credit for Ed's demeanor throughout his sickness was the influence of his wife Sue, whose patience and grace gave us another source of inspiration. She modeled a different kind of courage throughout a decade of testing new medicines and protocols and enduring their aftereffects. Ed was always quick to acknowledge her role as devoted caregiver and loving companion. She was a blessing to him and as such to us.

I was privileged to know Ed and to count him as a classmate and friend. Maralee and I join the countless others who will remember him so fondly. We'll cherish the memories even as we morn the loss.
