Be Thou At Peace

| Steve and I were in the same Beast platoon, somewhat a bunch of the runts. Despite the stresses of those two months, he remained calm, never lost his sense of humor, and encouraged those of us who were bewildered. We also shared time as part of the "Catholic squad," and ended up overlapping teaching assignments at the Academy--he Math, me English. My wife reminded me numerous times that Steve was finished "grading boards" and home with Anne by early afternoon, while I had essays to grade morning, noon and night. He was, as everyone has noted, a warm and caring human being, whom I enjoyed revisiting with at reunions. May he rest in peace. |
