Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Hollie Pritchard Domingue on October 30, 2008:

Dr. Bachman was my beloved Professor at UL. I took as many classes with him as I possibly could. My heart sank when an old classmate of mine wrote to me and told me that in her recent search for Dr. Bachman that she had come across these eulogies. I cannot express to you what this man meant to me. We crossed paths at the start of my college journey-- thankfully! The second I laid eyes on him, I felt a connection to him, and indeed, he would become my mentor. Because of one sentence he wrote on one of my essays in Freshman Comp, "You should consider a career in the Liberal Arts", I went on to do just that; I now teach English at a local Community College here in North Texas. There isn't a day that I walk into the classroom that I don't think of Dr. Bachman and his infamous yellow note pad that contained the markings of his brilliant mind. I consider Dr. Bachman my personal hero, and I don't even believe in heroes per say! I regret not staying in contact with him over the past few years. The knowledge that he imparted to me will stay with me forever. He was a kind soul, a one in a million guy. To his family: You are so lucky to have had this man in your lives on a daily basis. I am honored to have known him. Please understand the impact that he has had on so many people over the years... and if he kept those Celtic Goblets that we gave him when he retired, then please hold them up in celebration of his amazing life. Feel free to contact me.
