Richard H. Sinnreich

West Point, 1965

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bob Frank on December 15, 2022:

Rick was a very smart and savvy guy. I knew he had made a name for himself in important Army circles. He had done well in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point. He had also gained a solid reputation as a doctrinal and strategic thinker. But, I didn't realize how influential Rick had become until he was selected for War College attendance. Rick was requested by the Center for Strategic and International Studies to be the first Army fellow at that prestigious think tank. As a fellow, Rick developed a guide for the Operational Level of War. My relation to Rick was to be his liaison to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, HQDA. I got to see firsthand a brilliant mind at work. Clearly, Rick had a deep understanding of Operational Warfare and the US Army's needs in approaching this topic. It was clear to me that Rick was one of the Army's brightest thinkers, and he was also one of its best writers. As time went by and the Class of 1965 began to nominate Classmates as Distinguished Graduates, it was Rick who was instrumental in the writing of the nominations. Here again, he displayed his ability to communicate clearly and forcefully. But, what I took away from Rick's efforts was that he did so unstintingly. I admired him deeply, and feel that I've lost a very good friend. Well done!

Our condolences to Carol.
