I got to know John when we both served at West Point as faculty in the same department. He brightened the lives of all he associated with. I especially enjoyed his humor that was typically not politically correct. I enjoyed participating with him in intramural sports and in a bridge group. Although he was highly skilled in both, he emphasized the fun rather than the competition and helped others to lighten up and do the same. I so admired his approach to enjoying life.
