Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Bob Frank, L-1 & B-1 on June 6, 2015:

George Seaworth and Ron always provided a refuge for their fellow Plebes. Living across from the L-1 Orderly Room, the two of them always had their door open to the rest of us, whether it was waiting for the mail, getting set to pick up newspapers or just staying warm before heading out to Reveille on a cold January morning in the wind tunnel that was South Area. What an introduction to one of the most thoughtful and charitable of Classmates.

Years later, I was privileged to be in Los Angeles at UCLA (it was tough duty, but that's where the Army sent me). What that meant was that I was close enough to San Bernardino to serve in Ron & Janice's wedding party. What a grand time we had. This happy soldier was at the peak of happiness, and his joy was infectious. What an honor to be there to experience this most transforming event in his life. Marriage suited Ron, and he thrived.

We would see each other again in the 70s when we joined the Staff and Faculty at our alma mater. He served there with enthusiasm and great insight. But it was not until over 30 years later that fate would bring us together again. Ron was still the most upbeat guy I had come across. The years had not changed him, except to make him wiser and, if possible, even more compassionate than he had been as a younger man. It was impossible to be around Ron, and not feel good. He just exuded goodness, humility and respect for others.

I miss him already and am thankful I got to share time with him over the years.

Well Done!
