Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John Swensson on November 7, 2021:

Step and I met at Prep School and we were in the same Platoon for that year. We became close friends and I always enjoyed Step's company and his wit and his wonderful writing abilities. We taught at USMA with some overlap and then attended Leavenworth together. After retirement we were neighbors about 50 miles apart and Step and Beth and Lauren and his mother living in the family home in Carmel. For three years we worked together researching, and writing (Step did most of the writing--no surprise), and producing a Hollywood Movie FIRE BIRDS with Nic Cage and Tommy Lee Jones and the Army's Apache fleet. After a stint in Hollywood, Step ended up in Sacramento, near Lauren and her children. One of the two best Scribes ever, he was a great friend and life was much richer for having known him. I will be working with Lauren and Chuck McCloskey on the TAPS article so if you would like to contribute pls email me at swenssonjohn@gmail.com. Strength and Drive, Grip Hands... Thanks, and THANK YOU, STEP, for a rich and interesting life, and for leading our troops in Viet Nam.
