Be Thou At Peace

A Dash of Doggerel In memory of St. Elmo P. Tyner (Who Would Not Have Appreciated an Ode)
In metaphor Step met a for-, midable friend and foe. In simile, similarly, To fuel his tales of joy and woe
His chattery, his flattery, but mostly perspicacity, The Steply rules and tools our class adored, Witticisms, criticisms, stylish curmudgeonism, "Heed my lessons, Mates!", our Step implored.
A complex man, layered and mosaic, In my mind more tapestry, Not at all prosaic And without a hint of sophistry.
Me and Step and Tony Clay, Colonel Moffet and Johnny Hays, In Spanish class where Step excelled, And heard in hallways as he yelled, Argentine must rhyme with fine, For English proper, Mates of mine!
You told our tales of joy, with flair, Our sad news, you sensitively shared, There is no doubt the history of our class will clearly say, In linguistics morphologically, you proudly led the way.
Rest easy, friend, your work well done, or, as you might say, Eschew chimeric motion! See you on that stool at Fiddlers Green one day, Likely editing this, I have a notion!
