Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Art Mark on April 26, 2001:

Dick and I shared a lot of memories traveling around Europe our "Firstie" summer after AOT. We spent a week visiting the Collet-Jobey family in Derby, England the summer of "64". Dick had known the Collet-Jobey family from the time he was a civil air patrol cadet and Mrs. Collet-Jobey was a teacher in British History and Literature and she took us to places unknown by tourists, like "the stone desk near a cave where Handel wrote the "Mesiah". Dick was fluent in Spanish and I spoke German and French, but we only traveled to Belgium, France, Germany, and England. As a result of these acquaintances and travels I had kept up with the now late Mrs Colle-Jobey and her children and enjoyed taking my older children to England to visit her when she was in her last days with cancer. We had not met since she took Dick and I about England, but we enjoyed sharing the memories of those beautiful times when she made us raspberry flan and took us to a "real English pub" to have a local ale and to toast the our travels. Dick and I become firstie friends and he visited me in Chicago and met Tony Piet's daughter (Tony was a former Chicago White Sox Baseball Star) and the Piet family loved him and Dick had a great time on his vist and date. This is a small part of a story of a person who was very fine in ethics and humility and knowing him remebering those times we were traveling together are some of the fondest memerories I have.
