Be Thou At Peace

Posted by John I. Alger on March 10, 2008:

Don and Roz --
You'll always be my "ones" in a million. When a classmate suggested that Donny and I establish an informal 2x support group in light of our diagnoses of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, we got with the program. At first it was no more than a phone call every couple weeks, but then Donny had to move from his office because numbers play such a huge role in our lives. When the numbers got harder to control and remember, we adopted the credo that "attitude and exercise" were the key to defeating our respective diseases. Donny stuck to it, but it wasn't there. His every effort was in short time thwarted. But what he accomplished was monumental. His testimony before Congress, his friendly welcome to thousands of hospital visitors, and in his ability to lead to the bitter end. Deserving and selfless, his contributions on this earth will be forever.
