Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tom Kovach on January 6, 2021:

Although Bob and I were not in the same cadet company at West Point (Bob in K-1/B-1; I in L-1/A-1), we became the best of friends. Our friendship probably began during Plebe year, but it certainly solidified during Yearling summer at Camp Buckner where we were Recondo buddies. During the remainder of our cadet days, we shared many experiences - Chicago after the Army-Air Force game in 1962; New York City on weekend passes; Washington, DC, after President Johnson's inauguration parade in 1965 - just to mention a few. A couple of days after graduation, he was a groomsman for my marriage to Marilyn. A couple of months later, we met at Fort Benning to become Ranger buddies in Ranger School. Our journeys parted at that point and our paths crossed only a few times in the ensuing 55 years, but our friendship and the associated memories never diminished. Thank you, Bob, for the lasting friendship that I will cherish forever. Rest in Peace, my friend.
