As Plebe I found myself standing next to Ray in the ranks of some formation whose name I have long since forgotten. It was an inspection of some sort being conducted by a First Class-man. (As you know Ray's name would barely fit on a standard size Army name tag). Well this Firstie moves to stand in front of Ray, takes one look and asks, "What's your name Cadet?" Ray responded, "Sir my name is Cadet Schaltenbrand." The Firstie moves in front of me and says, "That' OK we'll just call him Alphabet Man." Ray and I did not receive demerits for laughing in ranks. Rest in peace Alphabet Man. |
