Kendall McRae Lemley

West Point, 1965

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Chuck Shaw on February 13, 2008:

I was lucky in that Ken Lemley was my roommate during Plebe year in Company K-2. He was much more knowledgeable than I about the West Point experience, because he came from a military family. He readily shared his knowledge with me and his other classmates to help them deal with the rigors of Plebe year. He was also a superior student, and was especially strong in English and English Composition. After the first semester, I was having a very hard time in English mainly from poor spelling. Ken went to talk with my Instructor, Captain Shemwell, and they came up with a plan to help me become a better speller. Over a period of weeks, Ken worked with me to help me become more proficient. Everyone knows how hard Plebe year is, and most cadets have a hard enough time dealing with their own academics and other activities. Ken, on the other hand, freely gave of his time to help me through a difficult time.

I was saddened to hear that he has suddenly been taken from us, and I wish I was able to attend his memorial service in Arkansas just so I could express my thanks and respect for Ken.
