E. Graham Forrest

West Point, 1965

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jay Vaughn on April 8, 2014:

Bo Forrest was my classmate, company mate, and part-time roommate through all four years of West Point. We were good friends then and even better friends during his final years on Earth. Anyone who knew Bo was his friend for life. He was a southern gentleman and a loyal pal with a great memory for the little things about a person. For example, even though he had never met her, he signed off on all his emails with some comment about giving his best to Daisy (our dog).

Bo was the life of the party ... any party. He loved music and he was a great dancer. He especially liked beach music and the Fabulous Shakers band. One of his great gifts was his story telling. However, you had better be careful about making eye contact with him as he started one of his yarns or you were in for the long haul. If he had your attention, his stories would be embellished with excursions down pathways and along tangents that would make you wonder where he was leading and would he ever get to the point of the story? Sometimes, he would come back to the main story. Sometimes he wouldn't. Regardless, there would be laughter.

Bo was proud of the fact that he graduated as the number one man in the bottom third of our class. This notable distinction allowed him to choose to go into the Air Force rather than "end up in the mud." He left the Air Force early to go to U. North Carolina to become a dentist, his true calling. He was as rabid a Tarheel supporter as he was a fan of Army sports.

He will be greatly missed.
