Gary, Norma, Pamela and I became close friends in Hawaii before our deployment to Viet Nam. His wife Norma was the matron of honor at my wedding and I will never forget the time we tried to broil a round steak and eat it. It was tough and virtually uneatable. I shall also remember just arriving at our base camp in ARVN and hearing that he was just killed. Norma and Pam were living together waiting for us to come home. Gary, I don't know why the good lord saved your life when your parachute failed to open, but I do know that you were a real friend and I would never have had the pleasure of your company had he not. I've often thought about our good times. |
