Be Thou At Peace

Posted by William O. Flowers Sr. on October 25, 2013:

Upon my return from Vietnam and discharge from the Army I could not find a job. I was told to talk to Dennis for possible employment and he was willing to help me out. I started as a laborer for his newly formed Co. and one of the best relationships of my life had began. Dennis helped me get in the carpenters union that I was in until my retirement seven years ago. With his firm attitude about employee responsibility he helped me to become a carpenter with a knowhow to make things right. He & Carter put up with my Vietnam veteran attitude many more times than they had to and I thank both of them for that. I was a Huey helicopter crew chief and came home from Vietnam with a bad attitude but Dennis always knew that and handled me the right way.

I always reflect on him as a man and to this day remember certain conversations. Believe me, at times I drove him crazy. When I overreacted and up and quit one day, he told me "Bill, don't burn any bridges, if you ever want to come back a job is here for you" that is the man he was.

It saddens me that such a great guy was taken way too soon. Dennis did so much good for so many and was bound to do so much more. The fact that he is gone just is not fair.

God Bless you, Dennis.
