Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Preston Motes on April 20, 2009:

Curt and I were good friends during our last two years at West Point. We both struggled with academics but Curt, less so than me. We had several classes together. He was a natural athlete and we spent many hours together on the squash and racquetball courts. Curt came home with me for Spring Break during Cow Year. I asked him if he played golf and he said,"No, but I would like to learn." We went to a nearby golf course and went to the driving range and hit a few balls. After hitting about 10 balls, Curt said,"Let's go play!" We played nine holes and I think that he shot a 52. We went our seperate ways after graduation and, although I often thought about him and our friendship, we didn't meet again until our 40th reunion. We spent several hours together catching up and renewing our friendship. We have been in contact at Christmas since then and I have been looking forward to seeing him again at the 45th. I will always remember his quiet nature and ever present smile. Our prayers go out to Lennie and the children. Curt was a good friend and classmate. Keep them on the short grass Curt!!
