Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Joseph R. Barkley on October 15, 2020:

Diane and I are very sad to learn of Hal Jenkins' passing.

We were in E-2 together for "Cow and Firstie" years.
My best memories of Hal were his late-night visits to our room, me and Gil Gilchrist in his black parka or B-Robe demanding help with Juice or Thermo or some other technical subject and refusing to leave until we (mostly Gil) explained things to him.

But rather than transfer knowledge, we ended up mostly laughing until lights out.

Hal was funny and serious; an inspiration as a cadet and a human being.

Unfortunately, after graduation, I did not have the opportunity to see Hal again, except at reunions. But those times were fun and made up for the missing in-between.

As I write this I am looking at the picture in the Howitzer of E -- 2 Firsties. Now there are eight "missing members."
"Well Done Hal, Be thou at Peace."
