Be Thou At Peace

Posted by George P Desjardins MD on November 1, 2020:

I have known Jon most of my life, as we grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same school and finally graduated together from Reading High School in 1960. Our neighborhood was a hot bed of West Pointers and over the years graduated a good half dozen, so his interest was well founded. In 1960 3 of us got appointments, but not yet Jon. He persisted and went to one of the prep schools for the next year and joined the class of 1965. We would share rides home for Christmas leave and Spring break, as our parents would rotate. After my graduation we didn't connect again until many years later, when we started with an occasional email. I did however keep him up to date with any HS class information and certainly when one of the seemingly many hurricanes roared through Houston I would check to see if he'd evacuated to the high ground. I did hear one story about him from WP - he apparently never lacked for a date, because he had one of the numbers for a Ladycliff dorm and whoever answered, he would "prospect". Sounds like Jon. RIP old friend - Pete Desjardins '64
