Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Tad Ono on April 14, 2024:

Big Bill was a good friend. Our friendship started at CGSC when we did a ski weekend in CO. Bill was a good athlete who could probably play any sport. We also served under MG "Barbed wire" Bob Kingston in the 2nd ID in Korea where he was assistant G-3 and I commanded the 2nd Engr Bn. Bill looked after me by feeding strategic information to help me succeed. We renewed our friendship when I lived in Hawaii, where Bill and Susan came frequently. Dinners and some golf. When I bought a place in the Mt Hood area of Oregon, I visited Bill and Susan at their home at a B-B-Q they hosted for classmates in the PNW. They have a beautiful house with an unbeatable view of Mt Rainier and a large yard with a never ending mole problem he told me about. Once, I invited myself to stay at their home overnight. Bill was a very thoughtful, smart guy who taught math after retiring from the Army. He was a serious thinker of life and world events but was always gentle and generous. We spent many hours solving world problems. The world is a better place for having this giant amongst us. His passing saddens me greatly and I will miss his soft, gentle smile. RIP, Bill, well done, very well done, my friend.
