Don and i where a two man fo recon team with 4/9 infantry c co. we where on several search and destroy and search and kill missions. one mission in particular was in around Teh Nin City. heavy fighting was going on. Don and i had been in lots of heavy combat. we were close buddys and a team. boom a blast that picked me off my feet. i started calling Don he was face down. Don Don he said put a turnicut. He was a mess blood all over the back of his legs. i said ok knowing no way to fix a wound that big i called for a chopper Don look up at me and said well there goes the football for me. choppers came thay were high up lots of ground fire. one of the choppers broke out of the pack pulled up close. the pilot had snow white hair, black leather jacket a white scarf around his neck he gave me a thumbs up. some of his crew got wounded we got Don a poncho. Don said stay here Brooks they need you are the eyes. the chopper had cobras as a marking on the side of his ship. i started to call fire missions. What a honor for me to have the best of the best.
