I was an 2/Lt in the Army Nurse Corps in 1966 @ the 93rd Evacuation Hospital, Long Bein, RVN. I wrote this poem while caring for 2/Lt Donald Parcells: I stopped by his bedside for only a moment To give something for pain But the pain was far too deep for me to ease It wasn't just the shrapnel there in his legs It was a young son he hadn't ever And a wife with blue eyes The pain was the sight of his men dying Because of a mistake It was a desperate search for an answer And eleven more months of lurking death It was the long grey line behind him And the unknown on ahead I had stopped for only a moment Then had stayed longer But the pain was far too deep And so I ached Maryfrances Bane Phillippi 5641 W Deren Rd Ludington, MI 49431 maryfrancesphillippi@gmail.com |
