Be Thou At Peace

Posted by PETER KIPPIE on January 24, 2019:

Captain Gang was a young company commander in Vietnam when he wrote a letter to our Rifle Club describing the dedication of his soldiers in his engineering company. In that letter, his commitment to DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY was evident and contagious. That letter convinced me to try and follow in his footsteps, resulting in my entry into West Point in the class of 1973. Later in my West Point junior year, Capt Gang was my Physics instructor. He was in no small measure responsible for this bone-headed cadet making through that tough subject. Ironically his wife was a teacher in my High School and as a married couple they represented the perfect role models for what a military family should be. After a 30-year military career, I look back and can honestly say that I never met a better man, leader or role model. Sir, yours was a life well lived.

Pete Kippie,
Colonel USAF
USMA 1973
