Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Gerald L. (Jerry) White on May 12, 2015:

Bill was my roommate in E-1. He was loud, brash, confident, full of strong opinions, and quick to say what he thought. He was a combination of everything I had heard about Texas boys. That was his public image.

However, in the room, he was a very caring person who only wanted the best for anyone he considered a friend. He tried his best to help me in my struggles with academics and spent a lot of time with me that I knew he could have been doing something else.

I thought his confidence took a real blow when his blonde high-school sweetheart (Gay, Gayle ??) sent him a "Dear John" letter. Bill seemed very vulnerable after that.

I was sad to hear of his passing. I did not realize he was buried at WP. I visit the cemetery every time I get back to the area. A lot of amazing people are in there.

I have a grandson who is considering both WP and Canoe U. He knows my feelings.

Bill is a memory that is still with me. He was a great friend and my life is better for having known him.

RIP.
