Charles Michael Baily died on Saturday, November 3, 2001.

Colonel Baily was a 1966 graduate of the United States Military Academy. He served two combat tours in Vietnam before earning a Ph.D from Duke University.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Staff and the U.S. Mission to NATO.

Colonel Baily served as an instructor at both West Point and the National War College.

Colonel Baily worked as a Defense Analyst for Coleman Research Corp. and was author of the book, "Faint Praise: American Tanks & Tank Destroyers During World War II."

Surviving are his wife, Tamora Baily, and children, Ellen L. Bertanzetti and First Lieutenant Michael D. Baily, US Air Force; mother, Helen Baily Wall and siblings, Beth Hill, Everett Baily, Eldon Baily and Carl Baily.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 30, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Sydenstricker Unted Methodist Church, 8508 Hooes Rd. in Springfield. Interment with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery will follow at 3 p.m. Friends are asked to gather at the Administration Building no later than 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park St. S.E., P.O. Box 699, Vienna, VA 22183.
