John and I served in the 173rd Abn Bde at the same time, in fact he arrived in country about the same week that I did. We ran into each other at Bien Hoa, HQ, 173rd Abn Bde, where we inprocessed and attended the week long Jungle School. John was assigned to 1st Battalion, along with Jerry Cecil, while I was assigned to the 4th Battalion, along with Al Lindseth. John was always a gung ho Airborne Ranger, and I know he was doing his duty exceptionally well when he was killed, especially since he was awarded the Silver Star. The Airborne Angels are looking after you now John. |
