Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Richard Tarpley on May 7, 2013:

Frank was a great friend. Because he grew up in the Canal Zone he seemed to have a zest for life a little different than most of us. He had never experienced cold or snow or ice. The West Point climate offered all these opportunities. We were coming out of a plebe swimming class when he shouted "it's snowing!" He rolled around In it laughing until an upperclassman lit into him. I don't think he ever stopped smiling though. Also, because it was so hard for him to get home when we had the chance Frank came to Texas with me for Christmas. He charmed my mother and she never failed to ask about him until the day he died.

Frank's death was a tragedy...one of those things that happen in war. He is missed by all who knew him. To this day when I think of his laugh, his smile, his infectious spirit, I have to smile myself. Rest easy Frank. We remember you.
