Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Dennis Hupp on September 6, 2006:

I served with Dave for several months in Bravo company, 1/503d Infantry of the 173d Airborne Brigade while on operations in the Central Highlands. Dave impressed me almost immediately as a fine troop leader and fellow officer. I enjoyed his infectious laughter and admired him a great deal for the way he treated his men with both respect and professionalism. When I became the company executive officer, it became apparent to me that our company commander also held Dave in very high regard. In early 1969, I found out from one of Dave's West Point classmates that Dave had made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and democracy. Although I still feel very sad that Dave's career ended so abruptly, although most honorably, I still think of him with much fondness, and I continue to pray for his eternal rest.
