Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim Stanford on November 22, 2007:

I knew Pete when we served at Fort Hood, before we both went to Vietnam. We were assigned to the 5th Battalion, 6th Infantry of the 1st Armored Division.
I received the terrible news of Pete's death while I was in Vietnam, with the 1st Cavalry Division. My wife wrote and told me before I read it in Army Times.
It has been 40 years ago tomorrow and I have just found this site. I recently read about Pete's loss in "The Long Gray Line" and have thought about him for many years.
He was truly officer material and I had a lot of respect for him, especially since he out-ranked me by six months and had graduated from USMA and I was a 90-day wonder from Ft. Benning.
The strange thing that continues to haunt, like many others.
"Why do the good ones die. Why others and not me."
May you rest in peace my comrade. You are one of my brothers as surely as if by blood.
