Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jimmie L Benton on September 8, 2010:

As a high school senior during the spring of 1972 I was contemplating appointment to the USAF Academy. At that time the war in Vietnam was on going and the number of those killed in action each week was reported by national news anchors. ( In 1970 Captain Ramsay's older brother, an AF F-4 fighter pilot was shot down and killed in action) The USAF Academy had assigned then Captain Ramsay to be its front man for recruitment of minorities for appointment and enrollment. Captain Ramsay made contact with me and through his letters to me he opened my eyes to a world of achievable and distinguishing possibilities. He convinced me that I should accept an appointment to the Air Force Academy. I did and I graduated in 1976. Now, after retirement from the Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel and Judge Advocate (JAG) and currently as a United States Immigration Judge, I say Thank You to Captain Ramsay. It is long over due but with this posting it will forever be recorded.
