Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kenneth G. Carlson on July 10, 2014:

Even though Dave was in the 2d and 4th Regiments while I was in the 1st and 3rd, we ran into each other on a regular basis.

Both of us were in the Chapel Choir, we both took advanced French with COL Wiilard and we served together as Hop Managers.

Dave was a genuinely nice guy and always fun to engage in conversation, usually in French. I read in the Howitzer that he had continuing battles with the Academic Departments, but I can't testify to that, since he spoke French like a native in the only class I shared with him.

Even at our Class Reunions, Dave would come up to me and catch me by complete surprise, speaking French to remind me of how we read Les Miserables in that language, prompting my lifelong dependence on the Petit Larousse Illustre and Cassell's French-English Dictionary.

Dave was one of my favorite "other regiment" Classmates. He will be dearly missed.
