Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Karl Ivey on October 24, 2006:

Woody and I took a PE elective in our Firstie Year, a SCUBA course. While we had always been acquaintences and often had classes together, I had not been that close to him until that PE class. One event absolutely gave me problems, the buddy-breathing exercise where you and another cadet had to share one tank and regulator and take turns breathing while swimming around the pool underwater. I would get excited and panic. After the second time, he saw my problem and volunteered to be my partner. He said we'd get through this if I would only trust him as much as I wanted to be trusted to share equally the air. He helped me calm down and make it through the exercise. I wll never forget his calming effect and patience with me. I know he was a superb officer who would have risen to high rank because he cared about everbody.
Thanx Woody, I will always remember you.
