Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Wayne Murphy on August 7, 2018:

A very tired couple arrived at the hotel in Kilarney early Sunday morning in June 2012. Entering the lobby we were almost immediately met by Doug who greeted us with a smile and his version of an Irish accent. Rooms were not ready yet but he would get things "squared away" as soon as possible.

He brought over a hotel staff member who asked if we were Catholic. He directed us to Mass a quarter of a mile away, said breakfast awaited us when we returned, and our bags would be in our room. "What name should I put on the bags?" he asked. "Murphy" I replied. He grabbed both my hands and said "Welcome home, lad!"

Doug smiled.

That was classic Doug - smiling, happy, and giving. We always shared an attempt at an Irish accent when greeting each other to celebrate our "heritage." So fortunate to be counted as one of his friends. We miss him already.
