Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Frank Appelfeller on October 17, 2008:

I had the honor to know and the great pleasure to serve with Bob Jordan in the 91st Maneuver Training Command (USAR) in the late 1980s in California. I can still remember Bob vividly and with great affection. He could generally be counted on to arrive at morning formation just in time for the call to attention. Bob would come strolling up in an unhurried way and it seemed almost always he bore the scars of a way too close shave. At some point every day he would bring forth and savor his ritual hard boiled egg. He was always quick to volunteer to drive us all to lunch in his big old blue Chevy Suburban. Our team worked and played hard together, and Bob was always the steadying influence. When Bob was there, everything was alright and the camaraderie was at its best. Bob was the kind of soldier and officer that is the foundation of the Army and what makes the experience of it worthy for all. Hard working; unpretentious; team player; rock steady - Bob personified all these characteristics and more.

Bob, thanks for being a good friend and an important influence in my life. You will always be remembered and missed.

Be thou at peace.
