Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jay Harper on October 17, 2023:

Bryan I were roommates plebe year in E-2 and spent our four years in the same cadet company. We sang in the Cadet Glee Club which was directed by Bryan's Dad, COL William Schempf. Bryan was a groomsman in our wedding after Ranger School. We traded Christmas cards and saw each other at Class Reunions throughout our careers. We both retired at Ft. Monroe and settled three miles from each other 30 years ago.

Bryan and Marilyn hosted a Hearts card game around Valentines Day every year. The invited couples had a great time and both he and Marilyn were "cutthroat" players!

I never saw Bryan mad at anything, he was such a gentleman. We enjoyed our impromptu meetings at his law office.

He loved sailing and he took Ann Marie and me out on his boat a few times, he let us be pilots while he did all the hard work with the winches, etc.

It was hard knowing that he was suffering so much since his diagnosis in February.

I will miss him so much, he was a great friend and classmate.
