Be Thou At Peace

Posted by SP/4 John D Steck on April 22, 2016:

I was very sorry to hear about Barry. We met in Vietnam. I was assigned as the RTO to 5th Ranger Group. The only enlisted man on a MACV team of 12. Lt Barry Kerr was an Advisor to a Vietnamese Ranger Battalion. He was my best friend in Nam. I called him Barry but gave him his due respect when around others. He made Captain in '71. I have a picture of us together and one of him with Ho, my best Vietnamese friend. Barry and I went on patrols together and flew on night mission called "Night Hawk". After Barry finished his 2nd tour he came to Ohio to see me. I picked him up at Wright Patterson AFB in my newly acquired '66 Austin Healey 3000. I put his stuff in the trunk and off we went. He spent a week at my apartment and we had a good time talking about Vietnam and drinking Coors beer. (brought back from California and saved for his arrival) Couldn't get Coors in Ohio then. That was the last time I saw him and we lost touch. He was good guy, only 2 years older than me. I don't know if he married or had children. I have been looking for him for two years on some veteran web sites. When I told the guy he was class of '69 West Point he said it was easy to look him up. That's when I got the bad news. Rest in Peace Major Kerr. I will never forget you
